30 Days of Twain - Day 13

Reader, suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.

My Take - Yeah, it's been said before, and it will continue to be repeated.  But it's one of my favorites.

Yeah, suppose...

It illustrates a major fallacy in our system of government - namely, that anyone can run for office.

The electoral college was supposed to prevent an idiot from becoming president, but clearly it hasn't worked in years, if it ever really did work.

Nope, the system is badly broken. Until it gets fixed we will continue to have idiots in office at all levels of government.

I love it when Twain is so brilliantly sardonic.

One of my favorite Twain essays is "Fenimore Cooper's Literary Offenses."

I think it's a scream. But then, I like to think of myself as something of a writer, and I also do freelance work as a copy editor, so it's no wonder it amuses me.
